About Me

Hi, I’m Kevin Merting—a systems thinker, student advocate, and creative communicator working in higher education.

I’ve spent the last several years helping students feel supported, connected, and empowered—whether through orientation programs, student government, or behind-the-scenes process design. I believe that when institutions run more smoothly, students thrive more fully. That’s why I care just as much about database structures and workflows as I do about welcome events and icebreakers.

Currently, I serve as the Coordinator of Student Government Operations at SUNY New Paltz, where I advise over 150 student organizations, manage financial processes, and help student leaders bring their ideas to life. I’ve led efforts to modernize purchase request systems, reimagine election marketing, and advocate for campus-wide improvements through student feedback.

Before this, I worked in Orientation and Family Programs—helping new students and their families navigate their transition to college. I also developed LOGAPP, a PowerApps-based call log system used by two colleges to reduce call transfers and improve service during high-volume periods.

What ties all of this together? A commitment to clarity, care, and equity. Whether I’m designing an app, crafting a message, or troubleshooting a spreadsheet, I’m always looking for ways to make higher education more accessible and human.

When I’m not working, you can probably find me editing a video, organizing a game night, or doing something overly elaborate in Excel just for fun.

Thanks for visiting—I’m glad you’re here.
